We press oil ourselves and have been doing so for years, any problems and we can probably sort it out. KERN KRAFT PRESSES

This is a popular press with farmers, it is a very neat and compact press from Germany. We are an authorised dealer for Kern Kraft presses and can therefore offer full backup. The presses perform very well and are easy to dismantle and clean making them ideal for culinary oil production. Although the throughput may seem small these machines can confidently be left running unattended (for months on end if required). Very little seed pulp (known as foots) comes through with the oil making filtering that bit easier. Higher capacity can be achieved easily by installing more of these compact press units - this gives a greater throughput while maintaining a good clean oil output, something that is difficult to achieve with a larger single press. Cake is expelled as a pellet (for example with rapeseed the pellet diameter is 6mm to 8mm). See a video of the KK40 pressing rapeseed HERE. 'KITCHEN' PRESS

Here is a little press ideal for education to show how the process of oil extraction works or for making oil for yourself from your own crops, running taste tests or making samples. It is based on a juicer and is quite a heavy duty solid feeling unit. I tested it on rape and it works very well, easy with little fuss. I got 700ml in an hour - not fast by any means but whirs away nicely. Should be fine for most small seeds like rape, linseed, hemp etc. You'll get all the fruit and vegetable juicer parts too with this oil press.

CHINESE PRESSES

We modify the main screw elements of these presses here in the UK to make them suitable for cold pressing, the Chinese presses you see elsewhere are actually designed for hot pressing, the standard unmodified machine will cold press but will produce quite a bit of seed pulp in the oil (known as 'foots').

Here is a link to a you tube video showing the YF100 with the modified screw pressing rapeseed yielding about 50 litres of oil per hour. HERE Unlike the Kern Kraft machines these presses are physically large and they produce rapemeal in flake form rather than pellets. Since they are larger, and there are more component parts, they take more time to clean and the parts are heavy (the main screw of the YF100 can not be lifted safely by one person). However they are good value and will typically extract 320+ litres of oil per ton cold pressing in one pass. I have used these presses abroad for many years and here in the UK for rapeseed, sunflower,hazelnuts, mustard and linseed. They are low cost, simple to use and the wearing parts are very hard so they last a long time. The Complete press is already on a frame with belt guards and stainless oil trays ready to use and suitable for culinary oil production. Fitted with 'low foots' screw.
The 'Kit' press is as it comes from China, this is the cheapest option - By kit I mean the press is not complete and is sold as components, without EC standard guards, no electric wiring or contactor (you will get a motor) and a very basic frame. There are various bits of tidying up to do and painting. If you can weld (or know a tame welder nearby) then it is cheaper for you to buy the press as a kit and sort out the guards etc yourself, there are various things that need to be done to the presses before they are ready to use (especially if you want to use them to make culinary oil), if you want to buy in kit form we will give you a list of what we do to bring the presses up to our standard. The kit press is popular for making oil for fuel (e.g. SVO and biodiesel).
